A Vernon doctor who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting one patient and two staff members has agreed to never practice medicine again.

Dr. Peter Clinton Inkpen, who was working at a private office in Vernon, surrendered his licence with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. The college says his conduct constituted a "serious contravention of the professional and ethical obligations" required of registered physicians.

The assault of the patient occurred in 2018 while Inkpen was working at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. He asked a female patient to participate in a research project involving ultrasounds. On November 28, 2018, while his office was closed, he behaved inappropriately with the woman. Two days later, he texted her not to get drunk and that he would need her "functional" for a scanning session the next afternoon. When she came to his office again—while it was closed—he poured beer for both of them and behaved inappropriately a second time.

In 2021, the college found Inkpen engaged in sexual misconduct and failed to maintain professional boundaries through personal communications and alcohol consumption with the patient. The college's notification does not provide details about the incidents involving staff members.

Inkpen has committed to never apply for reinstatement in British Columbia or licensure in any other jurisdiction.
