Germany's Isar Aerospace has signed a 10-year deal with Maritime Launch Services to use its Spaceport Nova Scotia as a dedicated launch site for its Spectrum launch vehicle, targeting orbital launches by 2028.

Maritime Launch's Spaceport Nova Scotia, expected to become Canada's first commercial launch pad when operational this year, will provide the launch site, an operations centre, and additional services. Isar will begin construction this year under the agreement.

The 10-year deal will see Isar pay Maritime Launch US$3.75 million per fiscal quarter once the contract is fully underway. Maritime Launch CEO Stephen Matier said the agreement represents an important milestone in building Canada's sovereign launch capability.

In March, the federal government announced a $200 million lease with Maritime Launch to enable Canada to send satellites into orbit without relying on other countries or foreign corporations.
