Alberta's higher elevations are waking up to snow as June arrives. Environment and Climate Change Canada says 10 to 20 cm is possible above 2,000 metres, with the highest amounts expected in the mountain passes.

Live cameras at Nakiska Ski Area and Banff Sunshine Village showed good powder accumulating overnight. Long-time Albertans know this isn't unusual — western parts of the province, including Banff and Canmore, saw snow in June 2024, while Jasper National Park took a hit in June 2023.

Multiple special weather statements and rainfall warnings remain in effect across the province Monday morning. The wet weekend that soaked much of Alberta is continuing into the week, so roads through forested areas may become slippery if caterpillars are active on them.

If you're heading to the mountains this week, bring layers.
