Three days of rain and counting — Calgary, June 2.
Damp Tuesday ahead. Grab your umbrella, dress in layers, and plan indoor moves for tonight.
Good morning. It's a wet one again—7°C and light rain already falling, with that rainfall warning still in the air. This is day three of the damp stretch, so if you're tired of the umbrella, join the queue. At least you've got plenty of daylight to work with; light holds till 9:43 PM, so the evening won't feel short even if it's grey.
Dress in a layer or two and grab that umbrella before you head out. The UV is low at 2.0, so sun protection isn't the worry—it's the wet that'll get you.
On the roads, there's a traffic incident on Stoney Trail southbound at Crowchild that's got all shoulders closed this morning. Emergency crews are responding, so give yourself extra time if you're heading that way. Expect some delays and congestion while they sort it out. The Foothills roads are worth checking too if you're heading west—conditions can shift quick out there.
A couple of things landing on the local radar: Council rejected a plan to expand Calgary's local area planning, and detached home prices have dropped across the city. On a grittier note, there's a man wanted in a string of southeast break-ins, and there was gunfire between moving cars that struck southwest homes over the weekend—something worth being aware of in those areas. Two people were also charged in extortion threats targeting a business owner.
For food, the damp weather calls for somewhere warm and inside. Ricardo's Hideaway on 5th Street is closing after a decade, so if that was a spot for you, this is the time to pay a visit. Paper Lantern and Prosperity Bar are both carrying forward family restaurant legacies if you want something with roots. Yummy Slice just planted its flag on 52nd Street SE, and there's a new Polynesian cocktail bar that opened up in Kensington if you're in the mood for drinks and warmth.
Tonight's the kind of evening where you stay in. Rainy Tuesday means indoor vibes—stream something, grab a drink indoors, settle in. Come From Away opens tomorrow night at the theatre, so if you're looking ahead to the weekend, that's the must-see. It opens Friday and Saturday, and you'll want to book early; word is it's going to be packed.
Stay dry out there, and we'll see what the rest of the week brings.
