Rain's Here, But There's Still Music and Trucks Today

Morning's sitting at 12°C with cloud cover and rain on the way. There's a rainfall warning in effect, so if you're planning anything outside, bring a jacket and expect puddles. You've got good daylight though—sunset isn't until 9:55 PM, so even if the afternoon's damp, you can still squeeze an evening in. UV's nothing to worry about at 3.0, so no extra SPF needed if you're dashing between spots.

Road-wise, keep an eye on the foothills if you're heading that way—conditions can shift with the rain, so check the cameras before you head up.

On the local front, the Stampeders got their season off to a solid start, beating the Lions 41–33 in Kelowna yesterday. Meanwhile, a Canmore climber just broke records summiting all 58 of the highest peaks in the Rockies—proper impressive stuff if you're into that kind of goal. In less happy news, a Calgary man was sentenced to three years for child abuse material charges, and down in Okotoks, the agricultural society's treasurer is facing fraud charges over a $200K misappropriation.

Restaurant-wise, the city's seen some turnover this month. Calan Beef Noodle closed its downtown spot after six years, but there's fresh energy coming in: Naan Tale just landed in Ramsay with classical Indian technique, and Native Tongues Taqueria is opening a Bridgeland location. If you're after a new spot for brunch or lunch, those are worth checking out.

Tonight's the night if you want to catch real live music. Metric and Broken Social Scene are at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium at 7:00 PM—that's indoor, so the rain won't affect it. If you're after something more casual and daytime, there's Monster Trucks All Out happening this morning at the Strathmore Stampede Grounds at 11:00 AM, and Country Thunder Alberta starts at 3:00 PM at the Confluence. The trucks will be wet, the country will be covered, and either way you're looking at a good time.

Cavalry FC plays FC Supra at Spruce Meadows at 5:00 PM if soccer's your thing.

Rain or not, there's plenty on today. Grab coffee, pick your poison, and get out there.
