Thursday's got music, hoops, and a mostly cloudy kind of vibe

Morning. It's 14°C and mostly cloudy out there, so you'll want a layer handy but leave the umbrella at home. The UV's sitting at 7, which is high—if you're spending time outside today, sunscreen's doing real work. Sunset's at 9:50 tonight, so you've got plenty of daylight to work with.

Road-wise, keep an eye on foothills conditions if you're heading that way—nothing dramatic flagged yet, but worth a quick check before you head out.

A couple of things worth knowing today: an Edmonton woman who was fatally shot by Calgary police had been struggling with mental health issues, and Elections Alberta's clarified what counts as referendum advertising ahead of the separation vote. Both worth reading into if you've been following along.

Grocery prices are still climbing faster than inflation—milk's up 19 cents at major retailers around town, which is noticeable when you're doing a shop. If you're thinking about growing your own, it's gaining traction with more Calgarians, though the savings aren't guaranteed. If you're grabbing lunch or dinner out instead, the Taste of Stampede's got local chefs competing in the Culinary Cup, and East Village's new Good Bar just opened with Rosso coffee and protein add-ons if you're after something wellness-focused. Mini donut ice cream is back at Village too, if that's your move.

Tonight's the real draw. Macklemore's playing at Cowboys Dance Hall and Cowboys Park—the 2026 Cowboys Music Festival's got a Thursday Pass if you want to catch him. The Roundup MusicFest's happening over at Prince's Island Park starting at 3 p.m. if an afternoon vibe works better. If you're a hoops fan, the Calgary Surge take on Vancouver Bandits at the Saddledome at 6:30 p.m. And The Dead South are also playing around town if live music's your Thursday night.

With 16 hours of daylight and mostly cloudy skies, it's one of those evenings where you've got time to do something if you want to—outdoor or indoor, depending on whether you're feeling the parks or the crowds.

Have a solid day.
