Saturday's got rodeos, live music, and that perfect summer light.
Partly cloudy, 14°C, and the sun won't set till nearly 10 PM—plan accordingly.
Morning. It's 14°C and partly cloudy out there, which is basically perfect for being outside all day. UV's sitting at 7—that's high—so sunscreen's not optional if you're catching the rodeo or spending time at Stampede Park. The light hangs till 9:49 PM, so you've got a real evening to work with.
One heads-up on the road: there's an overturned vehicle on Stoney Trail northbound near Crowchild, and emergency crews are still on scene. Expect delays if you're heading that way, and maybe take an alternate route if you can.
The Stampede's in full swing, and this year's got people talking. The social media numbers are climbing, and if you've been wondering whether the whole thing's priced itself out of reach, that's a conversation people are having too. Food-wise, the midway's got some genuinely good fried pizza if you're willing to skip the gimmicky stuff—the ramen donuts are soggy, for what it's worth. Milk & Cookies Shack has been doing their simple thing for over 20 years, and Cannoli Cowboy's handcrafting desserts at the venues if you want something fancy.
On the competition side, there's some good family legacy racing happening—Layne Flad and Cruise Bensmiller are rookies at the Rangeland Derby this year, and tie-down roper Zack Jongbloed's got momentum heading into Showdown Sunday.
Tonight's got options depending on your mood. If you want to stay downtown-ish, the Rural Alberta Advantage is playing the Wildhorse Saloon at 5 PM. The Stampede's got Nashville North firing up at the same time over at Stampede Park. If you're looking for something bigger, Badlands Music Festival's got a Saturday pass running from 6 PM, and there's the Cowboys Music Festival happening too—that one's 18+ if that matters to your plans.
If you're more of a daytime person, the Stampede Rodeo's on at GMC Stadium at 1:30 PM, and there's live music starting early at Cowboys Park at 2 PM.
For later, Vancouver's coming to town to play Calgary Wild FC at McMahon Stadium at 5 PM if you're into soccer.
It's one of those Saturdays where you can actually fit a lot in—weather's on your side, there's light till late, and the city's humming. Get out of the house.
