Thursday's yours — folk tonight, snow leopards today, watch that UV.

Morning. It's 15 degrees and partly cloudy out there — nice enough for the commute, but that UV's sitting at 7.0, which is high. If you're spending time outside today, sunscreen isn't optional. You've got a solid 16 hours of daylight, so don't let the weather fool you into thinking you can skip it. Sunset's at 9:44 tonight if you're planning something later.

No major road disruptions to worry about today, so your Deerfoot or Henday commute should be straightforward. Check the foothills cameras if you're heading out that way, but nothing's flagged as a problem.

Couple things worth knowing. The Calgary Zoo opened up the Asian Highlands this week with snow leopards, red pandas, and takins — if you've got a free afternoon or the weekend's looking tight, that's worth the trip. On the less fun side, the city's dealing with Prussian Carp in the Evanston storm pond and working up a management plan. Also, if you're in the NW around Rocky Ridge, there've been cougar sightings going into a second week now — nothing panic-worthy, just stay aware and keep an eye on your surroundings like you normally would.

Food-wise, the Italian Centre Shop just opened a big new spot at Northland Village Mall — 22,000 square feet of the good stuff. If you're thinking Stampede food, word is the ramen donuts are soggy (skip those), but the fried pizza is actually pretty solid. Milk & Cookies Shack over there's been doing their thing for over 20 years if you want something simpler and sweeter.

Tonight's got folk at Commonwealth Bar & Stage — The Longest Johns with Sean Dagher starting at 7:00 PM. It's a good vibe for a Thursday, and with sunset not until late, you could catch some park time before or after if you're keen. Weather's holding, so outdoor options are there if you want them.

Throw on the sunscreen, take your time getting where you're going, and enjoy the long daylight. See you around.
