Sunday sun, patio weather, and live hoops downtown.
Mainly sunny and warm enough to linger outside—grab brunch, catch the Surge game, or just soak it in.
Morning. It's 14°C and sunny—one of those July Sundays where you actually want to be out. UV's sitting at 7 (high), so if you're spending the day on a patio or pathway, you'll want sunscreen. You've got nearly 16 hours of daylight, so don't rush back inside. Sunset's not until 9:41 p.m., which means there's time to do something and grab dinner without feeling like the day slipped away.
One heads-up on Deerfoot: there's a vehicle fire southbound near 130 Ave SE causing lane closures and delays. If you're heading that way, give yourself extra time or take a different route—the usual Sunday traffic plus this will tie things up.
On the local front, Cavalry FC drew 1–1 with Halifax Wanderers yesterday at Spruce Meadows despite having most of the play. Closer to home, hundreds of Calgary youth set up lemonade stands this weekend for the fourth annual Lemonade Day—a nice reminder that summer's still got some good energy. And out of Okotoks, Lucy Wiens and Tianna Asala both earned spots at the Pan Pacific Championships, which is solid talent heading that direction.
If you're thinking about lunch or brunch, An Sang just opened on the Red Mile with Vietnamese breakfast—pho-focused service, if that's calling your name on a Sunday morning. The Italian Centre Shop is also opening a massive new spot at Northland Village Mall on Wednesday, so if you're planning a trip that way later in the week, there'll be a fresh anchor waiting.
Tonight, the Calgary Surge take on Saskatoon Mamba at WinSport Event Centre at 4 p.m.—live basketball, indoor and air-conditioned if you want to escape the heat for a couple of hours. It's the kind of day where you could easily catch the game and still have a whole evening left.
Get outside while you can. The sun's strong and the day's long.
