Smoky Tuesday: Indoor plans and road patience required

It's 15°C this morning and the smoke's sitting heavy over the city—visibility's decent but the air quality's flagged, so if you're heading outside for any length of time, keep that in mind. We've got good daylight today (sunset's not until 9:38 PM), but you'll want to save the outdoor plans for when things clear. UV's running high at 8.0, so sunscreen if you do venture out.

Getting around: Keep an eye on Stoney Trail westbound near Deerfoot—there's maintenance work happening with a speed restriction down to 80 km/h, so give yourself extra time if that's your route. You'll also want to know about the 6th Ave SW construction that's ongoing, and Foothills road conditions are worth checking on the go if you're heading that way. Nothing major, but the usual Tuesday slowness is compounded a bit today.

A few things on the radar. Parker, the missing Calgary boy, is now six days in—police have released new video as the search continues. It's the kind of thing where keeping an eye on updates matters if you're around the community.

On a lighter note, if you've been curious about An Sang on the Red Mile, they've just opened with Vietnamese breakfast as their focus. Pho in the morning is exactly the kind of move that makes sense on a day like this. And if you're planning ahead: Italian Centre Shop is opening a big new 22,000-square-foot location at Northland Village Mall tomorrow, so that's worth a look if you're in that corner of the city.

Tonight, you've got two solid indoor options with the smoke outside. The Calgary Surge is hosting the Vancouver Bandits at WinSport Event Centre at 7:30 PM if you want to catch some court-side basketball. Or there's a touring production of Clue over at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium at the same time—depends if you want live sport or live theatre, but either way you're staying inside where it's clear.

Stay hydrated, keep the N95 handy if you're out for long stretches, and enjoy the long evening light once the sun's actually out.
