Heat warning and smoke: Thursday's a scorcher, plan accordingly.
Macleod Trail's down, the smoke's thick, and it's going to get hot—here's what you need before you head out.
Heat warning's live this morning, so you know what that means: it's going to be a warm one. Right now we're sitting at 15°C with smoke hanging around, but the UV's cranked up to 8 (high), so even on a cooler start like this, you'll burn faster than usual. Sunset's not until 9:36 tonight, which gives you nearly 16 hours of daylight to work with—good for getting things done, less good if you're trying to stay cool. Keep the sunscreen handy and don't spend the whole afternoon on concrete if you can help it.
On the roads: southbound Macleod Trail between 109 Avenue and Anderson Road SE is shut down right now because of a water main break. If that's part of your commute, reroute now—don't wait until you're sitting in it. Everything else is moving, but keep an eye on the Foothills if you're heading that direction; conditions can shift quick out there.
There's some real stuff happening in town worth paying attention to. The search for 11-year-old Parker is into its seventh day now, and they've got 400 tips coming in—if you've got any information, get in touch with Calgary police. On the development side, Bucci's breaking ground on a 378-unit tower in Bridgeland-Riverside near the CTrain, which'll add some serious density to that neighbourhood. City council's also gearing up for another marathon hearing on blanket rezoning exemptions, because apparently they haven't had enough of those conversations yet.
If you're thinking lunch, An Sang just opened on the Red Mile with Vietnamese breakfast and pho as their thing—worth checking out if you haven't grabbed breakfast yet. Grey Eagle's Buffet is staying open through the end of 2026 despite renovation plans, so you've still got time. The Italian Centre Shop also just opened a massive 22,000-square-foot location at Northland Village Mall if you're stocking up on anything from there.
Tonight's got Clue at the Jubilee Auditorium at 7:30 if you want theatre, or you could bail early from work and hit a park while it's still reasonable out—probably your best move given the heat warning. You've got until 9:36 to make it happen.
Stay hydrated, check on people who might not handle the heat well, and have a good one out there.
