Thursday cools off—but the evening's still got heat.

Morning's on the cooler side at 11—a real shift from what we've been running lately. Partly cloudy, which means that UV's still climbing (7.0 is high), so you'll want sunscreen if you're out for lunch or the afternoon. Sunset's early-ish at 9:26 tonight, so plan your evening around that if you're heading anywhere.

For the commute, the big thing to know is the Foothills road near Canmore and Kananaskis is still shut down from rockfall back in the spring. They're targeting mid-August to reopen it, so if you're heading that way for the weekend, add time or plan a different route. Everything else is running normal.

There's some real stuff worth knowing about the city this week. An autism advocate group is pushing for changes to how emergency alerts work after a local boy was found dead—it's a hard conversation, but it matters for how we keep each other safe. On a brighter note, Calgary Emergency Management just got a new team member: Minnie, a Golden Labrador trained as a support dog. That's the kind of thing that actually makes a difference when people are in crisis. And if you've been meaning to check out Grey Eagle's Buffet, they're sticking around through the end of the year despite some renovation plans in the works.

Food-wise, there's a few new things landing. Starbucks is rolling out Orange Cream drinks starting today if that's your thing. If you're thinking lunch or dinner, there's a whole run of spots doing afternoon tea from fancy patios to flower-covered cafes—good for a Thursday escape. And if you're on the Red Mile, An Sang just opened up with Vietnamese breakfast, which is a solid addition to that stretch.

Tonight's the play if you want to get out: Collective Soul at Grey Eagle Event Centre at 8 p.m. Classic 90s alt-rock energy, and the mild evening means you could grab a drink after without freezing. If live music isn't your speed, the weekend's got comedy, soccer, and a two-day electronic music festival coming up, so there's room to move.

Stay warm out there—and if you're running errands, grab that sunscreen even though it feels cool.
