Friday heat and Deerfoot delays—but the weekend's calling.

It's Friday morning and we're sitting at 14°C with mainly sunny skies, but there's a heat warning in effect—so if you're heading out later, dial back the afternoon plans or find shade. UV's running high at 7.0, which means sunscreen isn't optional. You've got a long day to work with though: sunset's not until 9:24 PM, so plenty of daylight to sort yourself.

If you're heading north on Deerfoot today, buckle in. There's asphalt repairs and bridge maintenance work running the whole stretch from Beddington Trail NE up past 64 Avenue, and they've got lanes closed in multiple spots with a 50 km/h speed restriction. Two right lanes are down in a few sections, two left lanes near Peigan Trail East—expect crawl-and-wait traffic. Leave early or find another way if you can. The Henday might be your friend today.

Worth knowing: Dawson Lew, a 16-year-old golfer from Calgary, just won the Canadian Men's Amateur—proper impressive stuff. On the heavier side, the community's grieving 11-year-old Parker as vigils and memorials get underway. And if you've been wondering about private diagnostic imaging, Alberta just opened self-referral starting today—though word is there are some barriers for newcomers figuring it out.

Food-wise, if you're in the mood for something sweet, A&W's giving away free root beer floats today for National Root Beer Float Day. Starbucks is also rolling out Orange Cream drinks if you want something seasonal and caffeinated. And if you're thinking fancy afternoon tea on a patio, there's a handful of spots around town doing it properly—flower-adorned patios and all.

Tonight's the kickoff. Inter Toronto FC is in town to play Cavalry FC at Spruce Meadows at 7:00 PM—proper soccer if you're keen. If live comedy's your thing, David Nihill's doing shows at The Laugh Shop at both 6:45 PM and 9:00 PM. And later, World Famous Fridays (rap night) is free with RSVP at Commonwealth Bar at 10:00 PM, or there's electronic music and other acts floating around if you want to stay out. Weather's clear and warm, so outdoor stuff works fine until dark.

Get out there. See you on the other side of the weekend.
