Smoke and festival vibes: Saturday's got heat, music, and a warning.

Morning — it's 15°C out there and we've got smoke hanging around, so keep that in mind for outdoor plans. There's a heat warning active today, which might feel at odds with the cooler temp, but pay attention to it anyway. The UV's sitting at 8 (high), so sunscreen's doing real work. You've got a solid 15 hours of daylight — sunset's at 9:23 PM, so evening's got legs if you're planning something after dark.

On the roads, foothills conditions are worth checking before you head west toward the mountains — camera feeds are your friend. WestJet's also cancelling flights because of a strike deadline looming for tomorrow, so if you're flying out soon, get in touch with them early to sort it out.

Few things worth knowing this morning: a hiker died falling on Mount Temple's scrambling route in Banff, so if you're thinking about heading out that way, take care and know the conditions. There's also a sentencing hearing happening today for a man convicted of stabbing a friend 12 times with scissors — heavy stuff, but worth being aware of.

If food's on the brain, A&W's giving away free root beer floats today for National Root Beer Float Day, which is a solid Saturday move. Starbucks is rolling out Orange Cream drinks starting today if that's your lane. If you're thinking fancier, there are five spots around town serving proper afternoon tea from nice patios with flowers and all that — worth looking up if brunch's still happening.

Evening's the real draw today: Chasing Summer Electronic Music Festival kicks off at the Max Bell Centre at 10:58 AM and runs all day into the night. It's a two-day pass situation, so if you're into electronic acts and late sets, there's a full weekend of it. If comedy's more your speed instead, David Nihill's got shows at The Laugh Shop at 6:30 and 9:00 PM. And if you're into live sports, Calgary Wild FC play AFC Toronto at McMahon Stadium at 2:00 PM.

With the smoke and the heat warning, festival's your best bet if you want to be inside for most of it, but the daylight's yours if you'd rather be out. Either way, catch the sunset at 9:23 — it'll be a good one.

Stay safe out there.
