Chasing Summer kicks off—bring sunscreen and stay air-aware.

Morning's looking clear and mild—11°C to start, climbing into a proper summer day with mainly clear skies. UV's running high at 6, so if you're heading to Max Bell for Chasing Summer, pack the sunscreen and reapply. You've got a solid 15 hours of daylight, so sunset won't hit until 9:21 PM tonight. One thing to know: there's an air quality warning in effect, so if you're sensitive to that sort of thing or heading out with kids, keep it in mind. Nothing that'll shut your day down, just worth a heads-up.

Getting out of the NW or heading toward Max Bell, keep an eye on Deerfoot Trl around 16 Ave NE—bridge maintenance is underway in both directions with a 50 km/h speed restriction. Expect slower traffic and one-lane travel; budget extra time if that's your route. There's also a collision on Stoney Trl Northbound near 16 Ave N with one left lane closed and emergency crews on scene. If you're flying out of YYC today, WestJet flight attendants are on strike, so check your booking before you head to the airport.

Chasing Summer Music Festival kicks off at Max Bell this afternoon at 2 PM—electronic beats, daytime vibe, riverfront walk before or after. If you're staying out for the evening, Elderbrook's at Commonwealth Bar & Stage at 10 PM, or GorillaT at The Palace Theatre if you want to keep the festival energy going later. With sunset not until 9:21, you've got a long, light evening to work with.

If food's on the brain, A&W's giving away free root beer floats today (National Root Beer Float Day), and Starbucks just dropped their Orange Cream drinks. Marda Loop's Tat's Treats has a whole cereal soft-serve thing going if you're after something sweeter—worth the trip if you're in that neighborhood anyway.

It's a festival day, a clear day, and the evening's yours. Just grab the sunscreen, check those road conditions before you drive, and don't forget the air quality warning if you're out for hours. Have a good one out there.
