Thursday's mild start, plenty of daylight left to use

Thursday's mild start, plenty of daylight left to use

Morning. It's 13°C and partly cloudy out there, which is a gift for a Thursday. You've got a strong UV index today (7.0), so if you're spending time outside, sunscreen's worth the thirty seconds. Sun doesn't set until 9:14 tonight, so you've got over fifteen hours of daylight to work with — means the evening's still yours if you want it.

Road-wise, check the foothills cameras if you're heading that way, but nothing major blocking the usual routes this morning.

A few things on people's minds around town: Calgary Wild FC snapped a brutal 293-day winless streak yesterday with a dominant 4-0 win, which is the kind of day that actually feels good. On the harder side, the city held a vigil at City Hall for Parker, an 11-year-old who was killed — that's the kind of loss that ripples through neighbourhoods. It's also sparked parents talking more about tracking technology for their kids' safety, which makes sense. There was also a shooting at Victoria Park CTrain station yesterday that left two people in stable condition; one person's been arrested.

In other city news, the Alberta Crown has decided not to prosecute three Calgary police officers despite ASIRT finding reasonable grounds, which is a decision people are processing.

If you're thinking about food, Alberta on the Plate is back with over 40 Calgary restaurants joining a ten-day dine festival, so there's a good run of spots worth trying if you want to eat around the city without the usual planning. Word of caution: Costco's pulled Alfa Croissants nationwide over potential mould contamination, so if you've got some at home, worth checking. Cold Garden in Inglewood just launched a wine line at their taproom if you're looking for something different on that front.

Tonight, Dino Archie's doing stand-up at The Laugh Shop at 8:00 PM if comedy's your thing and you've got energy on a Thursday night. Weather's decent for heading out, so it's a solid play.

Stay warm out there. See you around.
