Friday light — clear skies, live music, and the weekend's calling.

It's 9 degrees out there and mainly clear — grab layers if you're heading out early, but you'll want them off by afternoon. UV's running high at 7, so sunscreen's worth the two seconds. You've got a full 15 hours of daylight to work with, which is the kind of Friday gift that makes you want to be outside.

If you're driving anywhere near the foothills today, check the road conditions before you head out — things can shift quick up there.

Up in Okotoks, the Dawgs are rolling into the WCBL playoffs as President's Trophy champions, chasing their fourth title in five years. Not bad for Cowtown's neighbours. On the energy side, South Bow and Keyera are both posting sharp profit surges and eyeing growth — the sector's having a moment.

Actually Pretty Good's closing its First Street Market spot after five years, so if you've been meaning to grab something there, this is your window. On the brighter side, Alberta on the Plate kicks off its 10-day dine festival with 40-plus Calgary restaurants in the mix — perfect excuse to try somewhere new. Fair warning though: Costco pulled Alfa Croissants nationwide over a potential mould contamination, so check your freezer if you stocked up. Cold Garden Beverage Company just launched a wine line at their Inglewood taproom if you want to check that out this weekend.

Police are cracking down on excessive vehicle noise along the Red Mile throughout August, so keep it reasonable if you're cruising 17th Avenue tonight or this weekend.

This evening's got live music scattered across the map. ÃSgeir's playing Commonwealth Bar at 7:00 with special guests, Dino Archie's at The Laugh Shop at 8:00 if you want laughs instead, and Cat Power's taking over The Palace Theatre at 8:00 — that one's her Greatest Tour, so if you're into her stuff, tonight's the night. Pick your vibe and get out there.

Sunset's at 9:13, so you've got a long evening to work with. The weather's holding clear, which means the night sky's going to be sharp. Whether you're catching live music, grabbing dinner somewhere new, or just sitting outside with a drink, tonight's one of those Fridays where everything feels like it's worth doing.

Have a good one.
