Monday morning: watch the west side, eat something new.

It's Monday, 14°C and mostly cloudy out there — a good sweater day, and the UV's sitting at 6 (high), so if you're out for lunch or catching the river pathway, sunscreen still matters even under the clouds. You've got nearly fifteen hours of daylight, with sunset at 9:07 PM, so there's time to move later if you need it.

If you're heading out the Foothills way this morning, know that 16 Ave westbound near Deerfoot is down to 50 km/h for bridge maintenance — they've got lane closures and a detour in play, so leave a bit early and be ready to creep. Not a total lockdown, but it'll chew into your commute.

Couple things worth your attention today: your gas bill's about to jump another $2.45 a month once a franchise fee agreement gets signed off by the regulator. Not huge, but it adds up. And if you caught the news over the weekend, that water main break in Bowness that took out the sinkhole and closed twenty businesses? Still settling. Worth checking if your regular spot's back open before you head over.

For eating, there's some actual movement. Arepa Boss — the ones you've been hunting at the markets for years — just opened their first real brick-and-mortar in Marda Loop. That's the story of the day if you're into food. On the flip side, Actually Pretty Good wrapped up their run at First Street Market after five years, and Seoul Korean BBQ closes today, so if either were on your rotation, now you know. Heads up too: Costco's pulled Alfa Croissants off the shelves nationally over a mould contamination thing, so check your freezer if you grabbed those.

Alberta on the Plate's rolling through town this week too — forty-plus Calgary restaurants doing a ten-day dine festival thing. Worth scanning the list if you're looking to try somewhere new.

Tonight, if you're in the mood to get out, Chiodos is playing Pawn Shop Live (used to be Union Hall) at 7 PM. It's a Monday vibe — live rock, then grab a late bite somewhere. If you're staying in, it's a quiet night, but that long daylight means you can still get outside and move before dark.

Keep your eyes on the road this morning, and don't be surprised when that gas bill shows up. Stay warm.
