Solar eclipse, cooler morning, and fresh eats in town

It's a cool 12°C out there this morning, mostly cloudy, so grab a layer if you're heading out early. The big thing today is a partial solar eclipse visible across Alberta—keep an eye to the sky if you're near a window around sunrise or early morning. Sunset's not until 9:03 PM, so you've got a long day to work with. UV's sitting at 3, so you're okay without going overboard with sunscreen, but it's there.

Road-wise, nothing's flagged as a major hassle this morning, so your commute should move the way it usually does. Just keep an eye on foothills conditions if you're heading that way—worth checking the cameras before you go.

Couple of spots worth knowing about: Prado Coffee just landed in Britannia Plaza, bringing that Vancouver specialty-cafe vibe to Calgary. If you've been meaning to try Arepa Boss after catching them at markets around town, they've opened their first brick-and-mortar spot in Marda Loop now. On the flip side, Actually Pretty Good is wrapping up their run at First Street Market after five years, so if you had a favorite thing there, might be worth one last visit.

If you're thinking about dinner, Alberta on the Plate kicks off this week—it's a 10-day festival with over 40 Calgary restaurants joining in, so there'll be plenty of options to explore. Good time to try something new or hit a regular favorite while they're part of the lineup.

Tonight's quiet, nothing major on the calendar. Tomorrow's when things load up if you're looking ahead—Friday and Saturday have comedy and concerts rolling, and there's soccer on Sunday if that's your thing. But today's the kind of Wednesday that's good for slowing down, grabbing a proper coffee somewhere, maybe a walk along the river if the clouds clear off. Analog Coffee over in the University District's always solid if you need a spot.

Get out and catch that eclipse if you get a chance. It's the kind of thing that doesn't happen every week.
