Friday's Here — Rain Won't Stop the Music

It's a proper August Friday: 9°C and misty out there, so grab a layer if you're heading out early. You've got about fourteen and a half hours of daylight, and the sun's down by 9:00 PM, so plan your evening accordingly. UV's at 4.0, which is moderate—nothing to worry about if you're mostly indoors or catching shows tonight.

Roads are clear for a Friday, so your commute should move fine. Just keep an eye on the Foothills if you're heading west later—conditions can shift quick up there.

A few things on your radar: Peter Maher, the voice of the Flames on radio for the last 33 years, died this week at 79. If you grew up listening to games, you know exactly who he is. Also worth noting—if you grab Greek yogurt at Costco, check the label. There's a recall on some units over potential mould contamination, so don't sleep on that if it's in your fridge.

One more heads up: Lake Sundance is closed to swimmers right now because of a toxic blue-green algae bloom. It'll clear, but it's not safe in the water at the moment.

For tonight, you've got options if you want to get out. Daniel Caesar with 070 Shake is playing the Saddledome at 7:30 PM if you're into that vibe. If live music's your thing, there's also Meltt at Commonwealth Bar—they're going most of the evening. Rain won't stop you, and it'll add to the atmosphere if you're catching something indoors anyway.

If you're thinking about eating out, there's some fresh stuff worth trying. Arepa Boss just opened their first proper brick-and-mortar spot in Marda Loop after years grinding it at local markets—definitely worth a visit if you've been following them. Prado Coffee, a Vancouver specialty spot, landed at Britannia Plaza and brought their whole thing with them. And if you're a Shake Shack person, they just opened Canada's first drive-thru on Macleod Trail—handy if you want something quick on the weekend.

Weather-wise, it's cool but manageable. Dress for it, plan around that 9:00 PM sunset if you're out, and you're sorted. Have a good one.
