Misty Saturday — bundle up, then pick your night out

It's cooler than recent days. Fog's hanging around. Soccer, comedy, and live music are on.

Misty Saturday — bundle up, then pick your night out

Morning's sitting at 7°C under mist, so grab a layer before you head out. There's a fog advisory in effect today, which means visibility's going to be patchy — keep that in mind if you're heading to the foothills or driving anywhere with a view. Sunset's not until 8:58 PM, so you've got a solid 14-plus hours of daylight to work with, though the UV's running high at 6.0, so sunscreen still matters even under the clouds.

Road-wise, keep an eye on foothills conditions if that's your direction — check the cameras before you go.

There's a few local things worth knowing: De Havilland's ramping up water bomber production as wildfire demand keeps climbing globally, and a naturist group's planning a protest at Prince's Island Park over the police's public nudity policy. Elections Alberta's also flagging that voter registration misinformation's doing the rounds ahead of October's referendum, so if you're thinking about voting, make sure you're checking official sources.

On the food front, if Greek yogurt's in your regular Costco haul, there's a recall on the table due to potential mould contamination — worth a check. There's also some fresh openings worth tracking: Prado Coffee, a specialty cafe from Vancouver, just landed in Britannia Plaza, and Arepa Boss finally opened a brick-and-mortar in Marda Loop after years of popping up at local markets. Both are worth a visit if you're in the neighbourhood.

For your Saturday afternoon, there's soccer at McMahon Stadium at 2:00 PM — Ottawa Rapid FC's in town to play Calgary Wild FC. If that's calling your name, get there early; it'll be cool but dry.

Come evening, you've got options depending on your mood. If you're into indie folk, Caamp's playing the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium at 7:30 PM. If you want stand-up comedy, Chelsea Handler's doing the High and Mighty Tour at the Grey Eagle Event Centre at 8:00 PM. And if you want to stay out late, Common Saturdays is running a free RSVP thing at Commonwealth Bar at 10:00 PM — that's more of a club vibe if you're looking to keep the night rolling.

With the cooler temps and the mist, tonight's a cozy one for indoors. Pick your show, settle in, and enjoy the fact that Cowtown's not sweating it out anymore.

Stay warm out there.
