Saturday's on—soccer, music, and two late dances to pick from

Morning. It's 14 degrees and mostly cloudy out there—fine for moving around. The sun won't drop till 8:43 tonight, so you've got real daylight to work with. UV's at 5, so if you're outside for hours, the usual precautions apply.

Roads look clear for getting around. Nothing flagged as a major headache for today.

Couple things worth your attention. Rajdoot, the Mission institution that nearly closed, is back open—loyal customers rallied and saved it, which is the kind of Cowtown move that still happens. And if you've been thinking about the city's food security stuff, Calgary's first halal food bank launches at the end of the month to help residents who need it.

If you're thinking lunch or dinner, Mission's obviously got Rajdoot back in the mix. Mount Pleasant Vintage just opened in the Beltline too—it's that hybrid bar-and-thrift concept from Vancouver, so grab a drink and poke around. McDonald's has a World Heist menu going right now with global dishes if you want something quick and different. Fair warning: that Greek yogurt from Costco (the one a lot of people stock up on) is recalled for potential mould, so check your fridge if you grabbed some recently.

The evening's got real shape to it. Cavalry FC plays Atlético Ottawa at 2:30 at ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows—that's a proper Saturday afternoon if you're into soccer. After dark, globalFEST kicks off at Elliston Park at 6:00, so live music and people outside while it's still warm enough. And if you want to keep going, there's two late-night dance parties running: Common Saturdays at Commonwealth Bar at 10:00 (free RSVP), or the Pawn Shop Block Party afterparty at Pawn Shop Live (used to be Union Hall) same time. Pick your vibe—either way, Saturday's not done till you say so.

One more thing to know: drownings in Alberta have more than doubled this year. If you're heading to water anywhere, take it seriously.

Get out there. See you around.
