Friday's clear, cooler—and your long weekend starts tomorrow
Grab tonight's comedy and live music before the weekend kicks in. It's a good one to be outside.
Morning. It's 9°C out there—a real drop from what we've had, so layer up if you're heading out early. Mostly cloudy today, but the sun's still solid (UV's at 5, so you'll want sunscreen if you're out a while), and you've got until 8:15 PM to make the most of the light. Thirteen hours of it. Not bad for early September.
Roads are clear for now. If you're heading into the foothills, check the cameras before you go—conditions can shift quick up there—but nothing major flagged for the city proper this morning.
Couple of things worth knowing: Calgary police are hunting three suspects in two designer-goods thefts from a downtown boutique. And if you're walking around the core, keep your eyes up—there's one intersection flagged as genuinely risky right now, with drivers blowing through stop signs and a lot of distracted walkers. Just be smart out there.
On a lighter note, Rajdoot's back. Remember that spot in Mission? It nearly didn't make it, but the regulars who actually cared showed up and saved it. Worth a trip if you haven't been in a while. And Feast on Fourth kicks off this month—16 restaurants are in, and dishes run ten bucks. That's your weekend eating sorted.
Sorella in Crescent Heights is closing after four years of fresh pasta and Italian small plates, so if you've been meaning to go, don't wait. On the flip side, Starbucks drops their fall menu on Tuesday—pumpkin, banana bread, new chai blends, the whole thing.
Tonight's where it gets good. You've got live comedy—Craig Conant at The Laugh Shop at 7, Jessica Kirson at Grey Eagle at 8—or if you're in a different mood, How To Train Your Dragon 2 In Concert at the Jubilee at 7:30, or Sonu Nigam at WinSport at 8. Pick your vibe and go out. It's Friday.
Weather's clear enough for whatever you choose, and you've got the whole evening ahead of you. Long weekend starts tomorrow, so tonight's the perfect time to kick things off right.
Have a good one out there.
