Clear skies and Saturday vibes—hockey, laughs, and live music tonight
It's a crisp fall day in Cowtown. Get out while you can—sunset's at 7:10.
Two degrees and clear skies this morning, which means it's sharp out there but gorgeous. You'll want a jacket, no question, and if you're planning anything outside today, you've got a solid window—UV's sitting at 3.0 and the sun doesn't set until 7:10, so there's plenty of daylight to work with. Classic early October in Calgary.
Roads are good across the city and the foothills, so no headaches getting around. If you're heading toward the mountains later, conditions are clear.
Few things worth flagging while you're having your coffee. East Village keeps building—Moxy Hotel just broke ground, the fourth major development there this year. The neighborhood's turning into something real. Also caught that a Calgary company just bought both Alberta racetracks for $23.2 million, so there's some momentum in that direction if you've got any interest there.
On the food front, heads up: there were four confirmed cases of E. coli traced back to Kinjo Mahogany from a September 18 meal, so worth knowing if you've been there recently. On the flip side, Tipsie just opened in that iconic Kensington wine bar space with chef-driven small plates—worth checking out if you're in the mood. A few spots are closing (Yellow Door Bistro, Weaselhead, Koko, and Ricardo's Hideaway), but there's movement the other way too—iQ Food Co opened at The Core, and Tony Roma's is back.
Evening's got real options depending on what you're after. The Wranglers are hosting Abbotsford at the Saddledome at 5:00 PM if you want hockey. If you'd rather laughs, Josh Wolf's at The Laugh Shop with shows at 6:30 and 9:00. Steve Hackman's playing Jack Singer Concert Hall at 7:30 if you want something musical and seated. And if you're up late, Yallah Habibi Crew's bringing the Harramt Ahebbak Tour to Pawn Shop Live at 9:00—that's the old Union Hall space if you know it.
It's a good Saturday to get out. The weather's your friend if you move before dark, and there's plenty to do once the sun's down. Get after it.
