Sunday's cold and clear—hockey, live music, and open skies
It's a crisp one out there. Pick your vibe: rink time or rock.
Bundle up—we've dropped to around 1°C this morning, a real shift from the milder stretch we've had. The sky's mainly clear though, which means you've got good light until just after 7 PM, so plan your outdoor time accordingly. UV's moderate at 3.0, so no special precautions needed, but that wind can bite, so dress in layers if you're heading out.
Road-wise, you're good—no major disruptions to worry about today. Foothills conditions are worth checking if you're thinking of heading west toward the mountains, but the city itself is open and clear.
A couple things worth knowing this week: there was a fatal stabbing on Seventh Avenue S.E. Friday evening, and another in East Village the same night. Police are still looking for a suspect in the first incident, so keep your head up if you're in those areas. On a lighter note, the Stampeders have youth flag football practice running at the new Fonda Field in the S.E., and if you've got kids, the Airdrie Public Library is hiring a couple of Kid Librarians for an October display project—worth checking out if that's your world.
If you're thinking about food, there's been a bit of shuffling: Kinjo Mahogany had four confirmed E. coli cases tied to a September 18 meal, so steer clear if you're wary. On the flip side, Tipsie just opened in Kensington in the old wine bar space with chef-driven small plates—worth a look if you're craving something new. And iQ Food Co is now open at The Core downtown. Fair warning though: Yellow Door Bistro, Weaselhead, Koko, and Ricardo's Hideaway have all closed recently, so some familiar spots are gone.
This afternoon you've got the Hitmen playing Regina Pats at the Saddledome at 2 PM—solid Sunday hockey if that's your move. Tonight's split between two vibes: The Corps, JSM, Dangerbox & TLM are playing rock at Modern Love at 5 PM if you're feeling live music and energy, or Lunch At Allen's is on at Jack Singer Concert Hall at 7:30 PM if you want something more classical and seated. Both are indoors, which works perfectly for a cold October evening.
Get out and do something—don't waste a clear day like this one.
