Wednesday's a solid 6—grab your layers and catch some live music tonight

Morning's sitting at 6°C and mostly cloudy—nothing dramatic, but UV's low so you're not getting burned if you're out a while. Sunset's not until 6:46 PM, so you've got a solid ten and a half hours of daylight to work with. Bring layers though; it's that in-between time where the weather could swing either way.

Road-wise, nothing major shutting you down today, but if you're heading out to the foothills, worth checking the cameras first—conditions can change fast out there. Transit's also worth knowing about if you're thinking ahead: they've launched a free shuttle straight to Spruce Meadows for advance voting through October 17, so if you want to skip the lines and get it done, that's your move.

Couple of local stories worth your attention. The city's in a bit of a standoff over zoning right now—council's at risk of losing a $63.7 million federal housing fund over it, which would sting. And if you live in the SE, there was an armed robbery at a bank Tuesday morning, but they've already made an arrest, so that one's moving.

On the food front, if you're hunting lunch or thinking dinner, there's a whole guide out to Calgary's best pho spots if you're in that mood. Or if you want to try something new, Luc's European Meats just opened a Calgary boutique—they've got a 70-kilogram ceremonial cheese wheel on hand, which is either intimidating or thrilling depending on how you feel about cheese. There's also a heated rooftop pool downtown that's open year-round now, which sounds pretty good on an evening like this one.

Tonight's got solid live music if you're into it. Branford Marsalis is at Jack Singer at 7:30 if you want jazz. If reggae's your thing, UB40's playing the Grey Eagle at 8:00. Or there's Darcy Oake doing theatre magic at Bella Concert Hall at the same time—pick your vibe.

It's a good Wednesday. Nothing's on fire, the day's long enough to get things done, and there's something good waiting tonight if you want it.
