Friday clear skies, early dark — hockey and live music tonight

Morning's crisp and clear — five degrees, which means you'll want layers if you're heading out, but nothing's stopping you. Sun's down before seven though, so if you're planning an outdoor move, get it done early. UV's low, so no sunscreen heroics needed.

Nothing major tangling up your commute today. If you're heading through the SE on MacLeod Trail near the Stampede grounds, keep an eye out — there was a gas leak that shut things down Thursday and rippled into CTrain service. Check ahead if that's your route, but sounds like crews have been on it.

There's a few things worth paying attention to around town. Water restrictions are coming back November 4 as the city wraps up a big feeder main replacement at Bearspaw South — not urgent today, but worth noting for your calendar. On a lighter note, Luc's European Meats just opened a boutique spot with a 70-kilogram ceremonial cheese wheel on hand, if you're into that kind of thing. And if you passed by Deerhead Cafe after the family's fundraising push, word is Saturday traffic's been absolutely packed — community really showed up.

For tonight, you've got some good lanes to pick. The Hitmen are home at the Saddledome at seven against Lethbridge — solid Friday night hockey if that's your thing. If live music is calling, Moontricks is at The Palace at eight, and there's also The Harpoonist on the same bill. If you're feeling the emo thing, The Black Parade Halloween Emo Night is happening at Dickens at nine, though it's sold out. Later in the night, there's rap at Commonwealth Bar & Stage at ten if you want to close out the evening that way.

It's a Friday with options — clean weather, no commute drama, and enough happening tonight to keep the evening from feeling flat. Pick your vibe and go.

Stay warm out there.
