Cold Wednesday in the Foothills, and the Flames are winning

Morning, neighbour. It's -2 out there this Wednesday, feeling more like -3 once the wind gets its hands on you, with a mix of sun and cloud. Nothing dramatic, just proper November cold, so grab the warmer coat and the good gloves before you head out the door. UV is barely a factor today, but the real thing to plan around is the light: the sun goes down at 6:05 this evening, so if you want to get something done outside after work, your window is the late afternoon and it closes faster than you'd think.

If you're driving anywhere out toward the foothills, check the road conditions and cameras before you leave. Conditions out there can change quickly at this time of year, and a ten-minute check on your phone is worth more than a cold white-knuckle drive. Give yourself a little extra time on the commute too, especially on the roads you'd normally rush through.

In city news, councillors are pushing a $511-million plan to put bus lanes up Centre Street instead of building the north Green Line LRT, which is going to be a conversation for a while. Over at the Calgary Co-op, the union says staffing changes could cut 75 to 80 full-time jobs, so keep an eye on that one if you shop there. On a brighter note, the Flames' young fourth line carried the team to a 2-1 win over the Sharks in San Jose, which is a good way to end a Tuesday night. A new Calgary poll also has Mayor Farkas at 74 per cent approval, though 56 per cent of respondents say city hall feels out of touch, so the mood at the council table is still a mixed bag.

For lunch or a bite after work, the taco scene is worth a look, with Calgary's 11 best taco spots covering everything from braised beef to birria. If you're after something cozy in Inglewood, Rain Dog Bar pairs a rotating menu with one of the city's better craft beer lists, and it's a solid place to warm up on a cold evening. Ramen fans should note there are six spots worth a detour this fall, so it's a good week to go chasing a bowl.

Tonight isn't loaded with live shows, so this is a stay-in, grab-a-drink-somewhere-warm kind of Wednesday. If you want something to look forward to, the weekend is music-heavy: Begonia on Thursday, Allison Russell on Friday, and Gorgon City on Saturday. Tickets for Begonia are already circulating if you've been meaning to pick one up.

That's your morning, neighbour. Dress warm, check the roads before you head out, and enjoy the Wednesday.
