The government is earmarking $15 million over three years to start rolling out a rail vision. The first 30 years target a high-speed spine connecting Edmonton, Calgary, their airports, and Red Deer—plus commuter rail to bedroom communities. Calgary would get links to Cochrane, Strathmore, Chestermere, Okotoks, and High River.
Calgary got a break from poor air quality. Open those windows and let fresh air flow through. It's a perfect chance to cool down the house naturally before temperatures climb again.
Council voted last night to move forward on a Calgary lobbyist registry—a step toward making the city a national leader in open government. The motion was brought by Councillor Harrison Clark and sponsored by Councillors Nate Schmidt and Myke Atkinson. This targets paid lobbyists hired to influence major decisions, not residents calling 311 or emailing their councillor about local issues.

A Redditor bought an above-ground Intex pool for a family friend undergoing cancer treatment and got it set up—but the yard's too uneven. They've called Hot Water Pools, Mosaic Pools, Master Pools, Trevi Pools, Oasis Pools, and Rocky Mountain Pools without getting solid answers. Looking for a local landscaper who can level and prep the yard on a tight timeline. If you've installed an above-ground pool or hired someone locally, they're asking for advice.
We made it through 2026 flood season without a disaster. Mountain snowpack was way above normal and we had 50% more rain than usual from mid-May through mid-July, plus two major rain events. The Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir was put into operation for the first time ever—diverted 13 million cubic metres of floodwater away from Calgary. The Glenmore Reservoir also kept Elbow River flows safe. Years of planning and investment actually paid off.
been hearing mobile detailing spots all over the neighborhood doing exterior car washes on driveways, but we're told it's illegal. are those businesses exempt from the city water bylaws or what?

A toxic weed called black henbane is showing up all over Calgary this year. There's a big patch of it south of the children's hospital along University Drive. The plant is dangerous but 311 reports don't seem to be working — just be aware it's out there.
Person got struck by a train on the blue line at Shaganappi Monday morning. Service is down between Westbrook and Sunalta — transit says shuttles are running but hundreds of people at Sunalta haven't seen one yet. Update: the pedestrian is in critical condition.
Someone mapped out where Flock-style license-plate cameras are in Calgary and found only two — one watching eastbound traffic on 144 Ave, the other near Pinebrook. Neither monitors high-traffic routes, so if they're supposed to catch criminals, placement's already failing.
