Artificial Intelligence Minister Evan Solomon says the federal government's new AI strategy will prioritize building trust in the technology while protecting workers, privacy, and children.

Solomon announced the long-awaited strategy is set to release this week. He emphasized that upcoming legislation on online harms and privacy will be central pillars in establishing public confidence in AI systems.

The strategy includes previously announced priorities: new privacy and online safety laws, sovereign compute infrastructure to reduce dependence on foreign servers, support for Canadian AI companies, and international coordination on AI governance.

According to Solomon, the framework will also provide AI training and education for Canadians and examine the technology's impacts on labour markets — a crucial consideration as AI adoption accelerates across industries.

The move reflects growing pressure on Ottawa to balance innovation with public protection as AI tools proliferate across Canadian workplaces and households.
