Prime Minister Mark Carney says the United States will play a role in a new world order where one set of institutions or country won't have all the answers, setting the stage for the G7 summit beginning Monday in Évian-les-Bains, France.

Carney made the comments during a visit to Ireland on Saturday, saying some countries will be on the same page about issues like artificial intelligence and child safety, while others will take a laissez-faire approach.

The prime minister said the "strands" of a new world order could be woven at the G7 summit. His strategy will focus on ad-hoc coalitions that differ depending on the issue, with Canada looking for partners on shared goals.

Carney expects the meeting to have a "heavy geopolitical element" given the war in Iran. He said the moral choice will be to do everything possible to establish a ceasefire.
