Heat warning Tuesday — grab shade before tonight's shows

Bonjour. We're climbing to 20°C this morning with that thick-air humidity that makes it *feel* like 25, and the UV's sitting at 7—that's high, so you'll want sunscreen if you're outside for any stretch. The real story is the heat warning in effect today, which means keep an eye on the elderly folks around you and yourself too if you're working outside or doing anything strenuous. Sunset's not until 8:47 tonight, so you've got a long, warm day ahead. It's summer now, properly.

On the roads, remember Highway 25's tunnel closures are coming July 3 and 4—nothing to worry about today, but file it away for the long weekend if you're heading downtown or to the South Shore. Otherwise, commute should move normally.

A few things worth knowing while you're settling in. Brendan Gallagher's gone to Vancouver after 14 seasons with the Habs—that one's going to sting for a while if you're a hockey person. The flooding in DDO is still a mess; residents are still cleaning up from the major hit they took. And tomorrow's Canada Day, so if you're planning anything for the holiday, check ahead on what's open and what's closed before you head out.

If you're thinking lunch or dinner, we've got some solid material right now. There are five seafood spots in the city that readers have been raving about—could be a good day to treat yourself to something fresh. And if you're curious about the bigger picture, four Montreal restaurants made North America's top 50 lately, so there's plenty of reason to eat well this week. Fair warning though: a Chinatown staple just got hit with $5K in health violations, so maybe do a quick check before you go in. On the lighter side, Dunkin' is coming back to Canada and Montreal's first on the list, so if you've been missing it, that's happening soon.

Tonight's got some real energy. Evanescence and Spiritbox are at the Centre Bell at 7:00 PM if you're into that mood. The Jazz Fest is in full swing too, and if you want something completely different, John Cameron Mitchell's doing a 25th-anniversary Hedwig screening at the Beanfield Theatre at the same time. There's also Mardi Latin Groove happening at Le Balcon X Terrasse at 7:00 PM if you want to keep it loose and social. Whatever you're doing, it's an indoor kind of evening—too hot to sit around on a terasse unless you're near water.

With the heat warning and that long daylight, today's one of those Tuesdays to slow down a bit, stay hydrated, and let the evening pull you somewhere good. See you out there.
