Sunday sun — perfect day to be outside, and the evening's got shows.

Bonjour. After the weekend that just tried to fry us, you've got a proper break today — 17°C and mainly sunny, which is a relief. UV's high at 8.0, so sunscreen's still your friend if you're spending time outside, but nothing like the scorcher we just came through. Sun won't set till 8:46 PM, so you've got a real day here.

If you're planning to get out for brunch or just park yourself somewhere with a coffee, the timing's good. The heat's backed off enough that you can actually move around without feeling like you're in a slow cooker.

A couple of things on your radar: there was a rough car crash into an apartment building in Anjou Friday evening — driver's in critical condition. And heads up if you shop at Boucherie Française in LaSalle — they got hit with $5,000 in fines from MAPAQ for pest and contamination issues. Something to know.

If you're thinking about eating out, Montreal's got four cafés that rank in North America's top 100 for coffee, so there's no shortage of a solid spot to land. And if you're jonesing for smoked meat, there's been a whole reader ranking of the best places across the city — worth checking if you've got a spot you're loyal to or want to try something new.

Evening's where it gets fun. Cirque du Soleil's Echo is running at Jacques Cartier Pier at both 1:30 PM (if you catch it this afternoon) and 5:00 PM — water views, good light, outdoors. If you want music, Lionel Richie's at the Centre Bell at 6:30 PM, or if you're into heavier stuff, there's a Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon show at Le Dome at 5:30 PM. There's also the Canadian swimming finals happening at the Parc olympique if you want to catch some elite swimmers, also at 5:30 PM.

If you're into soccer, FC Supra plays Forge FC up in Laval at Stade Boréale at 1:00 PM.

Basically: you've got sun, a break from the heat, and a good menu of things to do if the mood strikes. Just a nice Sunday in Montreal.

Stay cool.
