Monday heat, tennis quarterfinals, and a live band tonight

Morning, it's 21°C but feels like 27° out there, cloudy overhead. UV's running high at 6.0, so if you're out much today—especially midday—sunscreen matters. You've got solid daylight until 8:10 PM tonight, so don't feel rushed.

No major transit headaches to dodge this morning. The usual Monday flow, so leave a bit earlier if you're heading downtown or near the Bassin Lachine—nothing critical, just the standard end-of-weekend traffic shake-out.

Couple things worth your attention this week: Fredy Villanueva's death 18 years ago is still shaping how this city talks about police violence and activism. It's worth remembering where we've come from. Also keep an eye out—there's been some rough stuff on the streets lately. A few people got pepper-sprayed at Place-des-Arts on the métro, and there was a brawl at a downtown gas station that hurt someone working there. Nothing paranoid, just stay aware.

Quite a bit happening this week if you're looking for things to do, so we'll circle back on that as the days unfold.

For lunch or dinner, there's some solid new stuff to check out. If you're in Old Montreal and feeling fancy, Jacopo's doing a whole thing with tableside fettuccine carved right out of a hollowed wheel of cheese—proper theatre. If you want something customizable and hot, La Soupière Malatang just landed on Ste-Catherine West with Sichuan hot pot where you build your own bowl. And if you want to grab a coffee with real care, there's a new specialty café that just opened on the Notre-Dame Basilica courtyard—Café Saint-Henri.

Head's up: Costco's recalling some Cadbury Oreo bars and Alfa Croissants over allergen and mould concerns, so check your pantry if you've grabbed those recently.

Tonight's the move if you want to get out: tennis quarterfinals are happening at the National Bank Open and the ATP—both going at 4:00 PM at the Stadium and Rogers Court. If you're not the sports type, Cheater Slicks are playing live at La Sotterenea at 8:00 PM. That's your Monday evening sorted—could be a solid night out if the energy's right.

Stay hydrated with this heat. See you around.
