Friday's cold snap and live music everywhere tonight

Good morning—it's a proper cool one out there. We're sitting at 14°C, which is a real drop from what we've had the past few days, so throw a layer on before you head out. Sun's been generous though: it's bright, UV's running high at 6.0, so if you're outside for any stretch, sunscreen isn't optional. You've got just over 14 hours of daylight, and sunset's at 8:04 PM, which gives you plenty of evening to work with.

Friday's the start of the weekend, and the city's got plans. If you're catching anything tonight, Cirque du Soleil's Echo is running at Jacques Cartier Pier starting at 4:00 PM—an outdoor show, so the cool air'll actually feel good once the sun starts dropping. For something indoors and loud, Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon is playing at Le Dome twice—5:30 and 7:00 PM—if you're feeling the classic rock thing. There's also soul and Motown at Le Balcon X Terrasse starting at 6:00 PM if you want something looser and live.

A couple things worth knowing as the week wraps: there was a construction worker fatality yesterday after a fall from a nine-metre ladder during a training session—one of those reminders that every job site's only as safe as the people running it. On a lighter note, Ben Shelton just won the National Bank Open men's title, defending his Montreal crown, and Nakashima's made his first Masters 1000 final. The tennis's been solid this year.

For eating, MUCHO Burrito's celebrating 20 years today with 2-for-1 burritos, if you want to grab something quick and cheap for lunch. If you're feeling fancier, there's a new spot called Jacopo in Vieux-Montréal doing tableside fettuccine right inside a hollowed-out wheel of cheese—proper theatre with your dinner. One heads-up though: Schwartz's is having trouble sourcing Cott's Black Cherry Cola, and yeah, that's been the drink with the smoked meat for forever. Worth knowing if you've got a run planned there.

One more thing—if you've grabbed any Cadbury Oreo bars or Alfa Croissants from Costco recently, Costco Canada's issued a recall due to allergen and mould concerns. Check your fridge if you picked any up.

The evening's yours. Pick your vibe—circus, music, good food, or just a walk up the Mountain before it gets dark. Sun's down by eight, so plan accordingly.

Have a good one.
