Light rain, live music, and trade wars: your Tuesday sorted
Morning commute's got some bike race closures to dodge, but the night's warm inside. Grab an umbrella.
Hey—16°C and light rain all day, so umbrella's non-negotiable. UV's sitting at 6 (high), so if you're out between the showers, the sun's still doing work on your skin. Sun's down at 7:19, so you've got just under 13 hours of daylight to play with.
Heads up on getting around: there's major cycling races happening today, which means some street closures that could slow you down if you're navigating the core. Plan a bit extra time if you're commuting through areas you know are tight, and keep an eye on which routes you usually take—might be worth a detour.
On the bigger picture, tonight Canada's counter-tariffs on 700 U.S. products kick in as the trade thing escalates. Not immediately your problem this morning, but it's moving fast. Also worth noting: there was an armed assault near Drummond and René-Lévesque yesterday (guy's in the hospital), and eight teenagers got caught after a stolen vehicle chase from Longueuil into the city. Keep your head on a swivel in those areas.
Food-wise, if you're thinking lunch or dinner: Il Teatro just opened up in Quartier des Spectacles doing proper Roman pasta and wine if you want to feel like you've left town for an hour. Fair warning though—there are a couple of product recalls circulating (Mini Danoise pastries for undeclared allergens, and some raw chicken and fish products at Viande à bas prix locations for missing cooking instructions), so double-check labels if you're grabbing anything prepped.
Tonight's your call: Melanie C or Melanie Couture both playing Club Soda at 7, SLAYR at Beanfield Theatre at 8, or Aymeric Lompret at L'Olympia at 8 if you want to hear something live before bed. It's a light rain kind of night—perfect excuse to stay warm inside with music or laughs. Rest of the week's packed if nothing grabs you tonight.
Stay dry out there.
