Sunday's got the live music, the weather's turning—grab your jacket.
Cool start to the day, solid shows tonight, and a couple things to know before you head out.
It's 10°C and cloudy this morning—jacket weather for real now. The UV's moderate at 4.0, so you're okay without sunscreen if you're just moving around the city, but if you're spending the afternoon out, it won't hurt. Sun sets at 6:56 PM, so you've got just over 12 hours of daylight to work with. Plan your evening accordingly.
Nothing major tying up traffic today, but if you're heading out to the West Island or towards the South Shore, keep in mind there's mobile photo radar now active on Highway 30 westbound at the Varennes construction zone—the usual heads-up.
Couple things brewing in the city worth knowing. There's a strike looming for Montreal blue- and white-collar workers, and fracking's become a real issue in the provincial campaign as the Quebec leader opens the door to shale gas development. Monday, there's a vigil planned for Nooran Rezayi, the 15-year-old shot by Longueuil police on the South Shore—something to be aware of if you're on that side of things. Also, Quebec's launching an aerial vaccine-baiting campaign starting yesterday through to the 23rd across three regions to tackle the raccoon rabies situation, so don't be shocked if you see that happening.
Food-wise, a couple of quick heads-ups: Mini Danoise pastries have been recalled for undeclared milk, eggs, and soya allergens, and there's been raw breaded chicken and fish products pulled from five Viande à bas prix locations over missing cooking instructions—check your fridge if you've shopped at those spots recently. If you're eating out, Il Teatro just opened in the Quartier des Spectacles bringing proper Roman pasta and Italian wine to the neighbourhood, which is worth a look if that's your vibe. And if you're seeing Halo Top ice cream being pitched as a breakfast thing, that's the new protein angle they're pushing—your call on that one.
Tonight's got a solid live music lineup. Claude Dubois is at Théâtre Manuvie at 4:00 PM if you want classic chanson. For the heavier crowd, Kamelot's Dark Asylum World Tour is at MTELUS at 7:00 PM, and HammerFall with Evergrey is at Le Studio TD at 7:30 PM. If you want something earlier and more low-key, Bear Ghost is at Piranha Bar at noon. It's one of those Sundays where you can dial in whatever mood you want and find a room full of people in it.
Stay warm out there, and enjoy whatever you're getting into today.
