It's a proper cold snap this morning—we're down to 7 with mostly cloud cover, so pull the sweater out of the back of the closet. Commute's still a mess thanks to the UCI Road World Championship. If you're heading downtown or crossing through the usual routes, you're looking at longer times than normal. The closures are ongoing, so check your usual way in before you leave—might be worth shifting your timing or finding an alternate route if you can.

Couple things worth knowing: there's a provincial election coming October 5, and the PQ's sitting at 29 percent in the latest poll if you're keeping score. Also keep an eye on your calendar—Old Farmer's Almanac is forecasting the first real snow could hit us between October 11 and 17, so we're not quite out of the woods yet, but it's coming. Meantime, heads up on some food recalls: Mini Danoise pastries are out there with undeclared allergens (milk, eggs, soya), and Viande à bas prix has pulled some breaded chicken and fish products over missing cooking instructions at five locations. If you've got either of those in your kitchen, check the labels.

For lunch or dinner, if you're thinking about something solid, Il Teatro just opened in the Quartier des Spectacles and they're doing proper Italian—wine, pasta, the whole deal. If you're eating solo and want something quieter, that's worth a shot. Or keep it simple and grab something at the dep on your way home.

Tonally, tonight's got options if you're out. Jazz Sessions au Balcon starts at 7 p.m. if you want something low-key and musical. If you've got more energy, Nick Hakim's at La Sala Rossa at 8, Nahko and Medicine for the People are at Le Studio TD, and The Garden's at Club Soda—all starting at 8. So depending on your mood, you can go jazz, indie, soul, or rock. It's one of those Tuesdays where the city's actually got something for everyone.
