Thanksgiving Monday: 13 degrees, live music, and the Alouettes at home
A statutory holiday with mild weather—perfect for catching the game or an evening show. Just watch for that weather alert first.
Morning. It's Thanksgiving Monday and most of you are off the clock, which means we're thinking less about commutes and more about what's actually worth doing with the day. Weather's on your side: 13°C and cloudy, so it's not cold enough to keep you inside, but it's not beach weather either. You've got about 11 hours of daylight—sunset's at 6:14 PM—so plan your outdoor moves accordingly. There's a special weather statement in effect, so check that before you lock in any plans that depend on clear skies.
Speaker's corner: Spencer Levine and Amanda Tam crushed the Montreal Marathon yesterday in 3:47, and in the process they hit their $15,000 fundraising goal for ALS research. That's the kind of Monday energy worth knowing about.
If you're heading out to eat today, heads up on a couple of recalls. The Fromagerie des Grondines tomme de Lachevrotière cheese—the one that got flagged for E. coli—is worth avoiding if you see it. Same goes for the hummus from Marché Sultan on Rue Jarry. There's also a Sakana-Ya Sushi recall for undeclared mustard in their products across Quebec, so double-check anything you pick up from there. Restaurants right now are pretty brutal on pricing; 80% of Canadian spots raised prices this year, and half of them are planning another round next year. Not unique to Montreal, but it stings nonetheless.
For tonight, you've got options. The Alouettes are home at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium at 1:00 PM against Saskatchewan—that's your marquee event if you're into football. It's daytime, mild enough to be outside, and honestly, there's something good about being in a stadium full of people on a holiday Monday.
If live music is your move, there's AJJ (also called Andrew Jackson Jihad) at Foufounes Electriques starting at 7:30 or 8:00 PM—they've got the venue double-booked, which is peak Foufounes energy. There's also feeble little horse with Snuggle over at Theatre Fairmount at 8:00 PM if you want something a little different. And if you're more into the all-day-dance vibe, All Day I Dream is running at Parc Jean-Drapeau from 5:00 PM on, weather permitting.
With sunset at 6:14, anything outdoors wraps up early, and anything indoors—the shows, the stadium—is your solid bet for the evening. Check that weather alert before you commit to the park.
Have a good one.
