Friday's clear and crisp—time to get out tonight
4 degrees, live music waiting, and a couple of things to know before you eat.
It's Friday morning and you've got a perfect setup: clear skies all day, UV's low enough you won't fry, and sunset's not until 5:55 PM, so you've got a real evening ahead of you. Dress for 4 degrees though—that's proper jacket weather, not a hoodie situation. Wind shouldn't be an issue, so if you're planning anything outside, you're good.
Couple of things worth flagging on the food front. Boulangerie Richard's had a recall on their pâtés—wheat and fish allergens weren't declared, so if that's your thing, check what you've got at home. Same goes for hummus from Marché Sultan on Rue Jarry; they're saying possible E. coli contamination. There's also been recalls on freeze-dried fruit sticks from Néo Chips (dried stem fragments) and a Montreal-North bakery's pulled everything over possible wood contamination. Just worth knowing before you grab lunch.
On the bigger picture: two teens got charged this week in connection with a September shooting at an outdoor gathering in Rivière-des-Prairies. And there's been some hard news around workplace safety—a rooftop fall in the city was preventable with proper precautions, which is the kind of thing that sticks with you. Also this week, a coroner determined that a teen's death in a DDO park was likely accidental, not suicide like police had initially concluded. One more: Quebec employers can't ask you about your religion, sexuality, family plans, or exact age in job interviews now—if anyone's hiring and crosses that line, that's worth knowing.
Tonight's your call on how to spend it. John Summit's at the Centre Bell if you want live electronic music—doors at 6, show at 7. If comedy's more your speed, François Bellefeuille's at the Casino de Montreal at 7:30, or Isabel van Gelder's playing Bar Le Ritz PDB same time. There's also a junior hockey game (Rimouski at Blainville-Boisbriand) at Centre d'Excellence Sports Rousseau at 7 PM if that's your Friday night.
Weather's on your side for getting out, so don't waste it inside. Pick your vibe and roll.
A heads-up if anyone knows what happened to Cabane Kreyol over on Atwater near Lionel-Groulx métro—their Haitian food was solid and it looks like they've moved or closed. If you know where they landed, let me know.
