Bundle up, Montréal — it's a sharp one this Wednesday

Bonjour-hi, friends. It's a cold one out there this Wednesday morning. We're sitting at -2°C, but with the wind it feels closer to -5, and the sky's partly cloudy, so you'll get some sun between the clouds. The UV is low at 2.0, so sunscreen can stay in the drawer today, but the cold is what you'll feel on the walk to the métro. Bundle up properly, hat and gloves included, and give yourself an extra five minutes for the sidewalk, especially on the stretches that haven't seen a shovel yet. The sun sets at 5:48 PM, which gives you about ten hours of daylight, so if you're planning anything outdoors after work, it's going to be dark well before you're ready to head home.

On the news side, there's a lot to know. Nathalie Simard is speaking out against online hate after a Facebook group mocked her over a childhood assault, which is a hard story and worth a read if you follow the local conversation. Indigenous leaders in Montréal are saying the Quebec premier's absence from the Ottawa summit sends a message they don't take lightly. Over at the Olympic Stadium, a $254K emergency waterproofing contract has been awarded after experiments left the roof exposed. And the Parti Québécois government is drawing congratulations from Trump, 22 days after the vote, which has people talking.

Garbage is changing too, so pay attention if you're in one of the boroughs going biweekly. Bins become mandatory from November 2, so check your schedule and get your bin sorted before then.

For eats, there are some food safety recalls to keep in mind before you shop. Boulangerie Richard has pulled pâtés across Quebec for undeclared wheat and fish allergens, so if you have allergies, check the label or skip them. A Montreal-North bakery recalled all its products over possible wood contamination, and Néo Chips freeze-dried fruit sticks are recalled for possible dried stem fragments. On the restaurant side, six Amir locations across Quebec were fined $12,500 for food safety violations over the past year. If you're looking for a good Indian meal today, you're in luck, because the city has some solid options.

Tonight's got plenty going on. Charles Brunet is at L'Olympia at 7:00 PM with his Très Très Bon Show, so if you want some laughs, that's your spot. Silly Goose plays Le Foufounes Électriques at 8:00 PM, and Rawayana is at L'Olympia at 8:00 PM too, so you've got a choice of comedy or live rock and pop. Since it's cold, all of these are indoor shows, which is perfect for tonight. Wednesday is a good night for live music, whether you want a chanson legend like Michel Rivard or something louder. And the weekend is already stacked, with comedy, orchestral music, dance, and rock all lined up from Thursday to Saturday, so if you're planning to get out, start looking at tickets now.

Stay warm, take care on the sidewalks, and I'll see you on the Main, or wherever the day takes you.
