Friday in the 514: Mild Air, Sting in Town, and the Weekend Starts Now

Bonjour-hi, and happy Friday. It's 11 degrees out this morning under mostly cloudy skies, which is a lot milder than the last few days, so you can leave the heavy parka at home and grab a light jacket instead. The UV is low at 2, so no sunscreen drama today. Sunset is 5:45 this evening, which gives us about ten hours of daylight, so anything you want to do outside should happen before dinner, and by the time the streetlights come on you'll want to be somewhere warm and indoors.

On the getting-around front, the big thing to know is that the Metro is showing a system-wide disruption, so check the STM app before you head down to the métro and give yourself a little extra time for the commute. If you can, walk or grab a bus for part of the trip and save the stress.

A few stories worth knowing this morning. An SPVM officer from Station 39 has been reassigned to administrative duties over allegations that evidence was destroyed. Air Canada is lowering its full-year earnings forecast because fuel costs keep climbing. Muslim groups in Quebec are pushing back on a proposed ban on religious symbols for primary-school students. And down in St-Leonard, five people have been arrested in connection with a 2023 homicide, though two men are still wanted. On the Jean-Talon side of things, merchants say the Blue Line work is squeezing them hard, so if you're planning to shop the market, now's a good time to show some love.

For the food side, it's been a rough week for some local producers. Boulangerie Richard has recalled its pâtés across Quebec for undeclared wheat and fish allergens, so if you're allergic to either, check what's in your fridge. A Montreal-North bakery has recalled all of its products over possible wood contamination, and Néo Chips is pulling its freeze-dried fruit sticks for possible dried stem fragments. Six Amir locations around the province were fined $12,500 for food safety violations over the past year, so if you've got a favourite spot, it might be worth a quick look before you order. Keep your receipts and check the recall notices before you snack.

Tonight is the big night. Katseye is playing the Bell Centre at 7:00, Sleeping With Sirens and Rain City Drive are at MTELUS at 7:00, and Sting is in town if you want to see a legend. Chris Kläfford is doing a set at the Cabaret du Casino de Montréal at 7:30, and Jake Vaadeland & The Sturgeon River Boys are at Bar Le Ritz PDB at 7:30 if you're in the mood for country. Hockey fans, the Gatineau Olympiques are at the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada at Centre d'Excellence Sports Rousseau at 7:00. This weekend it's stacked too, with Halloween shows, metal, and The Dresden Dolls on Saturday.

Have a good one, and take care of each other out there. À bientôt.
