A chilly rain day in MTL, so bring the umbrella and the good sweater

Bonjour-hi, and welcome to a grey Tuesday in the 514. It's 12°C out there right now with a light rainshower coming down, so the trench stays on the hook and the umbrella goes in the bag before you leave the house. It's warmer than the last few mornings, which is a small mercy, but the rain means your walk to the métro or the bus stop is going to be soggy. The UV is basically nothing today, so you can skip the sunscreen and stick to the rain gear. Keep an eye on the clock too: the sun sets at 4:39 PM, so if you're planning a 5 à 7 on a terrasse or a walk up the Mountain after work, plan for it to be dark well before you're ready to head home.

On the roads, the big one to note for the weekend is that Highway 25 and the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel are closing overnight on the November 6 weekend. If you're driving across the city that Friday or Saturday night, give yourself extra time or plan a different route, and if you can, take the métro instead. Nothing else is flagged as a serious disruption this morning, so the usual commute should hold, with the normal rain-slowed traffic.

A few stories worth knowing this morning. Quebec Superior Court has rejected Héma-Québec's appeal in a pay equity case, which is the kind of ruling that gets talked about in workplaces across the province. The Quebec premier has accepted Mark Carney's invitation to meet, but insists the meeting be held in Quebec City. And Carney has called six federal byelections for December 7, three of them here in Quebec, so if you've been wondering who's on the ballot in your riding, now's the time to start looking. On the business side, there's a piece making the rounds about a producer who isn't paying his artisans, which is worth a read if you buy from local makers.

For food, a few things to keep in mind. Six Amir locations across Quebec were fined a total of $12,500 for food safety violations over the past year, so if you're a regular, you might want to check the inspection history before you order. There are also a couple of recalls to know about: Boulangerie Richard is pulling pâtés across Quebec because of undeclared wheat and fish allergens, which matters if you or someone you're feeding has an allergy, and a Montreal-North bakery has recalled all its products over possible wood contamination. Néo Chips freeze-dried fruit sticks are also being recalled for possible dried stem fragments. If you've got any of these in the cupboard, check the labels before you eat them. For a warm dinner on a wet night, a plate of fondue fromage sounds about right.

Tonight, the marquee is the Winnipeg Jets at the Montreal Canadiens at the Centre Bell, puck drops at 7:00 PM. If hockey isn't your thing, there's live jazz at Le Balcon at 7:00 PM for Jazz Sessions au Balcon, P-A Methot is at Théâtre St-Denis at 8:00 PM, and PORCH LIGHT is playing Bar Le Ritz PDB at 8:00 PM. If you're a Centre Bell regular, there are also the Visites Guidées tours running late tonight. Everything on that list is indoors, which is good news with the rain coming down. Looking ahead to the weekend, the Leonard Cohen tribute vibes are back with Everybody Knows Leonard Cohen's 10th Anniversary Concert Celebration, and there's ramen and comedy around town too.

That's your Tuesday. Bring the umbrella, get the Jets game going if you're a fan, and drive careful on the Highway 25 closure weekend. À bientôt, and see you on the street.
