Mild November Wednesday, Bring Your Light Jacket
Clear skies and 11 degrees make it a good day to be out, with a full night of shows if you want one.
Bonjour-hi, and happy Wednesday. It's a mild one out there this morning, 11 degrees and mainly clear, so you can leave the parka in the closet and reach for a light jacket instead. The UV is sitting at a 3, which is low enough that sunglasses are a nice-to-have rather than a must, but if you're going to be on the Mountain at lunch, bring them anyway. Sunset is at 4:37 this afternoon, so you get just under ten hours of daylight. Plan your errands for the afternoon and don't leave anything outdoorsy until too late.
For getting around, there's a closure coming up that's worth a note for the weekend rather than today: Highway 25 and the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel are shutting down overnight on the November 6 weekend, so if you've got plans that involve crossing to the South Shore or heading east, look at alternate routes before Friday night. Nothing else in the material is flagged for your commute this morning, so the métro and the usual routes should be fine.
In the news, the big one for many of us is the Montreal police union saying it will challenge the firing of seven SPVM officers over racism allegations, a story that's going to keep moving. Over in Ottawa, the Bloc Québécois wants the GST grocery credit doubled ahead of Thursday's federal budget, which matters to anyone watching their grocery bill. And if you fill up this week, the good news is gas prices in Montreal are forecast to drop 8 cents a litre today. There's also a $333,333 Québec Max share still sitting unclaimed, with the deadline on November 21, so if you've got a ticket in a drawer somewhere, go dig it out.
On the food front, a few recalls to keep in mind before you grab something from the dep or the bakery. Boulangerie Richard is recalling pâtés across Quebec for undeclared wheat and fish allergens, so if you have allergies, check what you've got. A Montreal-North bakery has recalled all its products over possible wood contamination, and freeze-dried fruit sticks from Néo Chips are being pulled for possible dried stem fragments. Also, a spice marinade from Le Bon Goût Des Épices has a public warning out for unassured safety, so skip that one. And for a sit-down meal, six Amir locations across Quebec were fined $12,500 for food safety violations over the past year, so you may want to keep that in mind before you book.
Tonight is busy. The Laval Rocket are hosting the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at Place Bell at 7:00, so if you're a hockey person, the 514 and 450 crowd will be out in force. If you're more in the mood for comedy, Kyla Cobbler is at Théâtre Fairmount at 7:00 with GONE ROGUE, and Philippe Laprise is at Théâtre Manuvie at 8:00. For something louder, PAPER WINGS is at Casa Del Popolo at 8:00. The mood across the city runs from comedy and rock to a Leonard Cohen tribute, and there are seven shows on tonight, including a big Fally Ipupa concert if you're up for something larger. Since it's a mild, clear evening, the Plateau and Mile End patios could be a good call if you're heading out for a 5 à 7 before the show.
Have a good one, and take care of yourselves out there.
