Mélissa Perron has released Femme renarde, a new graphic novel published by KO Éditions that continues the deeply personal storytelling of her earlier work Femme caméléon, which documented her path to receiving an autism diagnosis at age 38.

Femme renarde spans 256 pages and uses richly illustrated animal metaphors to explore Perron's life after diagnosis. Where Femme caméléon traced her journey toward understanding her neurodivergence, this follow-up addresses the question readers asked repeatedly: "And now what?" The book probes what daily life looks like when you finally know who you are and why you experience the world differently.

Perron writes and illustrates the work herself, employing her characteristic colorful illustrations to give visual form to her inner world. The narrative unfolds through metaphors of a den, a ravine, storms, wounds, medicinal plants, fire, and an act of taming — each image rendered with the poetic sensibility that made Femme caméléon resonate widely.

According to critic Silvia Galipeau in La Presse, Perron's work reaches for something essential: hope. "Despite the detours the narrative takes — much like life itself — this text will find its audience," Galipeau wrote. "It touches something fundamental: hope in spite of everything."

Femme renarde is available now through KO Éditions.
