Map Solves Summer's Biggest Terrasse Problem
New website lists 200+ Montreal patios with filters that actually work—dog-friendly, covered, open now.
Summer in Montreal means one thing: claiming a terrasse before 6 p.m. becomes an Olympic sport. But finding the right one has always been chaos—jumping between review sites, Google Maps (which doesn't help if the patio isn't in the name), and whatever your friend said was good last year.
Terrasse Season, a new bilingual site built by Montreal local Jesse Bergman, cuts through that noise. It maps over 200 patios, rooftops, sidewalk cafés, and gardens across 24 neighborhoods. The interface is clean and searchable, but the genius is in the filters.
You can sort by neighborhood, terrasse type (rooftop, covered, garden, plaza, balcony), whether it's dog-friendly, heated, or covered—the stuff that actually matters when you're standing outside wondering if it's going to rain or your pup can come along. The two killer filters: "Open right now" pulls only active venues based on live hours from Google Places, and "Open this season" shows which spots have confirmed their summer schedule. That April-May window when half the city's patios are still closed? This solves that problem instantly.
The site launched last month with 182 listings and has grown to 205 through submissions from restaurant owners and locals. Bergman reviews each entry for accuracy, only listing amenities like heated seating or dog policies when confirmed. A mobile app is coming next year with push notifications when your favorite spot opens for the season.
With no marketing budget, it's already pulled over 3,000 organic visitors. One user emailed Bergman saying they discovered two new neighborhood spots they'd never have found otherwise. That's the whole point: better summer, less guessing.
