Théâtre du Ricochet's Indiscrétions publiques, a free outdoor theatre series now in its 12th year, launched at Parc Molson with seven short plays staged on park benches across Montreal through the summer.
The format is simple: each play unfolds on a single bench, and audiences move between scenes, remaining standing, sitting on the grass, or using portable chairs the production provides. The 90-minute experience is followed by a discussion with performers and creative team.
Seven writers — six women and one man — contributed scripts performed by seven duos, some fresh from theatre training and others with decades of experience. Themes include unexpected encounters, intergenerational relationships, and contemporary social issues such as housing access and left-right polarization. Florence Conant's Le nid draws audiences into a surreal encounter between an eccentric squirrel hunter and a heartbroken woman. Sophie Belleau's Ça va brings two women together in a moment of solidarity.
The productions aim to spark citizen reflection and celebrate the power of chance meetings. A diverse audience turned out at Parc Molson, reflecting the series' inclusive appeal across age and background.
