Québec solidaire launched a major national campaign Saturday in response to rising grocery costs, positioning food affordability as a central issue heading into the election campaign.

Party spokesperson Ruba Ghazal visited the 440 market in Laval on Saturday morning to speak with customers about grocery prices and their concerns. Multiple party members traveled to the area to meet with residents. Since 2021, the average grocery basket price has increased by 27 per cent, and a family now spends $16,800 per year on food, according to the party.

"Capping the profit margins of large grocery chains, banning unfair business practices, creating a network of public grocery stores — the solutions exist, and Québec solidaire is the party with the will and the political courage to implement them," Ghazal said. The campaign marks the start of a long mobilization the party plans to sustain throughout the election cycle.
