A small marsupial has been loose on Montreal's South Shore since at least Wednesday, and no one has managed to catch it.
Galahad SPCA says it's unclear whether the animal is a small kangaroo or a wallaby. Videos taken by residents showing the animal hopping around a field in Boucherville circulated on social media on June 13.
Galahad director Chamie Angie Cadorette says the organization received a call Wednesday from a concerned citizen who had spotted the animal at a horse stable in the area. Through government agencies, Cadorette learned the stable did not have the necessary permits for an exotic animal, suggesting the marsupial likely escaped from the facility.
Galahad does not have authorization from the provincial government to rescue the animal itself, Cadorette said. The agency has been in contact with wildlife authorities, but the animal remains at large.
