Former Montreal priest Brian Boucher remains in custody on child pornography charges

Brian Boucher, a former Montreal priest serving time for sexually assaulting two boys, is now facing charges of possessing and viewing child sexual abuse material. Boucher was arrested earlier this month on the new charges and will remain in custody until his next court appearance, scheduled for November 23, 2026.

Boucher's lawyer told a judge on Tuesday that her client had waived his right to a bail hearing. The charges relate to material allegedly possessed between April 7 and 9.

Boucher was convicted in 2019 of sexually assaulting two boys at two separate churches where he served as a priest. He was found guilty in one case and pleaded guilty in the other, receiving an eight-year sentence. The abuse incidents occurred between 1995 and 1999 for one victim, and between 2008 and 2011 for the other.

Boucher, now 64, served as a priest at 10 churches in the Montreal area between 1985 and 2015. He was officially stripped of his priestly duties in 2020. He was granted statutory release on July 23, 2024, and was serving the remainder of his sentence in the community at an approved residential facility before his arrest on the latest charges.
